OSPP
openRuyi welcomes university students and community contributors to participate in the Open Source Promotion Plan (OSPP), where they can learn, collaborate, and contribute code to real-world open source projects.
What Is OSPP?
The Open Source Promotion Plan is an open source program initiated by the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The program works with open source organizations to publish project tasks and invites university students worldwide to apply. Accepted students complete their projects under the guidance of community mentors. Students who pass the project completion review receive a completion certificate and the corresponding stipend.
In 2026, OSPP entered the 2.0 phase of the Open Source Software Supply Chain Promotion Plan. With a focus on core infrastructure software for RISC-V, the program gives particular attention to operating systems, compilers, virtualization, artificial intelligence, and related fields.
openRuyi Participation in OSPP
openRuyi participates in OSPP through the Classic Track and the Pioneer Program.
| Aspect | Classic Track | Pioneer Program |
|---|---|---|
| How projects are created | The community or a mentor defines a specific task in advance | The community publishes a broad direction, and students identify a problem and design a solution |
| How students participate | Students choose a published project and submit an application | Students submit a proposal for a published direction and develop it into a project through further discussion |
| When projects are refined | The objectives, requirements, and expected deliverables are defined before publication | After a proposal is accepted, the student and mentor refine the project together |
| Difficulty levels | Basic and Advanced | Basic, Advanced, and Challenge |
Both tracks remain open on an ongoing basis and do not use a single application or development period. Students may apply after a project is published. The development period shown on each project page is authoritative.
Choose the Right Guide
- If you are a student, read the Student Participation Guide for eligibility requirements, the application process, development requirements, and project completion criteria.
- If you plan to publish an openRuyi project or serve as a mentor, read the Guide to Submitting OSPP Projects.
Browse openRuyi Projects
Visit the openRuyi organization page on the OSPP website to browse published projects. New projects are added on an ongoing basis, so check again later if none of the currently available projects is a good match.
